When I'm craving comfort food that can be done quickly, I always go for Kielbasa and Sauerkraut. Meaty smoked sausage paired with tangy kraut is warm, hearty and delicious. Best of all, this kielbasa and sauerkraut recipe only takes about 20 minutes to prepare so it's ideal for busy nights and all ingredients are readily available at your grocery store.

While it's one of my favorite recipes, it definitely needs a side or two to make it a complete meal. Of course you could easily serve it with some Italian or rye bread but I always like to serve a potato dish and a salad or vegetable to really round out the meal. Over the years, I've rotated through this list of potatoes, veggies and salads and my family is always satisfied. Keep this list handy and you'll never wonder what to serve with kielbasa and sauerkraut again. All these side dishes are also perfect if making oven baked brats too which is another type of sausage.

    Potato Side Dishes

Potatoes are earthy and flavorful and pair beautifully with smoked sausage. The mild, creamy flavor of potatoes is a good match for the salty and sour flavors of Kielbasa and Sauerkraut. These potato recipes are always a winner and make the best sides. You could serve French fries too but I love the following potato side dishes to make a full meal.

    Mashed potatoes in a bowl.

    1. Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes

Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes have a creamy texture, a buttery flavor and are made with just 4 ingredients. These potatoes are ready in just 20 minutes so they are the perfect, quick side dish to kielbasa sausage.

    2. Air Fryer Red Potatoes

Air Fryer Red Potatoes are creamy on the inside and have delicious crispy perfectly seasoned skin that will satisfy your tastebuds. Made with just a few ingredients, this simple side dish is ready in just 30 minutes.

    3. Air Fryer Baked Potato

Air fryer baked potatoes are so light and fluffy on the inside and cook in under an hour. The seasoned sour cream topping is cool and creamy and adds a delicious flavor to these potatoes. You could also make air fryer baked sweet potatoes if you prefer.

Vegetable Side Dishes for Kielbasa & Sauerkraut

Adding fresh veggies is a great idea for what to serve with kielbasa and sauerkraut and a great way to round out the meal and give it some goodness. You can roast or steam your favorite vegetables or try one of these tasty vegetable side dishes.

    5. Air Fryer Frozen Green Beans

The air fryer magically transforms frozen green beans into a flavorful side dish in under 15 minutes. Go straight from the freezer to the air fryer and then enjoy a tasty and healthy side dish with kielbasa, Polish sausage or any meal. This easy recipe is a great addition to your dinner and is simply seasoned with olive oil, garlic powder, sea salt and black pepper.

Homemade pickles in a jar go perfect with kielbasa and sauerkraut.

    6. Sweet and Spicy Refrigerator Pickles

Pickles are a flavorful compliment to this Kielbasa and Sauerkraut dinner and these sweet and spicy refrigerator pickles are so simple to make. The flavorful recipe is ready in 20 minutes and is a great way to use up leftover cucumbers. It is also the perfect accompaniment to kielbasa and kraut sandwiches with spicy mustard.

    7. Oven Roasted Vegetables

Grab your favorite veggies from the fridge and roast them on a sheet pan until they are nutty, caramelized and full of flavor. So many great ideas! Which is helpful, as it's a dish that can sometimes be tricky to think what to pair with it.
