Take an ordinary burger and elevate it into a fried egg burger with bacon, cheese and avocado. Of course, you can eat this brunch burger at anytime. One bite and it will be your new favorite cheeseburger!
I wanted to make the most epic burger I could so I went with this brunch burger. Great on the weekends but when you want a big breakfast, this is for you too. Heck, I like it for lunch and dinner!
What is a brunch burger?
I thought I'd grill my beef burgers and top them with bacon, cheese, avocado and a sunny side egg. All this goes on a soft potato roll for lots of deliciousness. Ketchup is served on the side because some people like it and some don't. My family likes homemade Big mac sauce even on their burger for brunch. I love bacon so for a real treat I also spread some homemade bacon jam on the bun. But that's up for you to decide. But to me the egg is not optional. Every breakfast burger is better with a fried egg and runny yolk on it!
This burger is fabulous and I now want it for brunch every Sunday. Yum!
Normally, I cook my burgers outside on the grill. But the weather wasn't cooperating so they were cooked in my favorite cast iron grill pan. As long as I can get a nice sear and good grill marks, cooking burgers inside on my stove top doesn't bother me at all.
Ingredients Needed
- bacon- Crispy bacon really makes for delicious burgers!
- burger patties - use premade or make your own.
- cheddar or colby jack cheese - I like a nice thick slice.
- potato buns - or use your favorite hamburger buns
- avocado slices- or spread on some guacamole.
- eggs - Top with a fried or poached egg.
- salt and black pepper, to taste
- ketchup or other burger sauce for serving - I love adding homemade Big Mac sauce.
See recipe card for exact ingredient amounts and instructions.
I was a bit lazy and instead of forming my own patties I used these already formed Wahlburgers patties. I had absolutely no regret as they are made with Certified Angus Beef and are a restaurant-quality burger as well as a huge time saver. You can buy packages of 4 at most local supermarkets. Of course you can make homemade burgers with fresh ground beef too.
How to Make Fried Egg Burgers
- Cook bacon in a cast iron pan or large skillet on medium-high heat until crispy. Drain any extra grease and set aside on a paper towel.
- Cook the burger patties on medium heat until they are just slightly pink in the middle or to desired doneness. Ground beef should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 F. Before they’re finished cooking, add a slice of cheese to the top of each burger so that it melts.
- Place the sliced avocado and bacon on the bun bottoms, then top with cheeseburgers. Keep warm on a plate.
- Fry the four eggs in the pan until the whites are set and the egg yolk is slightly runny. Season with salt and pepper to taste and top each cheeseburger with the fried egg and top bun.
- Serve with ketchup, extra sauce and salt and pepper to taste.
Variations
- Turkey Burger - Use ground turkey instead of ground beef patties and turkey bacon too.
- Favorite Burger Toppings - While I love the bacon and avocado on this burger, you can also add sauteed mushrooms, crispy fried onions, tomato slices or pickles too.
- Substitute the bun- Place burgers on English muffins, bagels or skip the bread for a low carb treat.
What should you serve these burgers with?
The Best Brunch Burger Recipe is now a favorite in my house. I like to serve them with Parmesan Truffle Hasselback Potatoes or a fruit salad if you prefer a lighter dish. They also go great with chips. And since it's a brunch burger, you might want a nice Spicy Bloody Mary Shrimp cocktail to sip on.
Now that your mouth is watering and you are craving a burger, go check out the recipe. You might even already have all the ingredients. If you love a juicy burger with fried egg like I do, you'll want to make this soon!
