If you're looking for a fun and flavorful twist on classic pierogi, these bacon and cheese-wrapped pierogi appetizers are the perfect bite-sized treat. The smoky bacon adds a savory, crispy contrast to the tender pierogi, while the melted cheddar gives each bite a rich, gooey finish. Paired with sour cream for dipping, these appetizers are sure to steal the spotlight at your next party or game day gathering.
Bacon wrapped pierogi is the perfect appetizer to serve at a casual party. Made with frozen pierogies, it is so easy to prepare so you'll have more time to spend with your guests. My kitchen is designed for entertaining and we tend to have friends over on a weekly basis. We gather around my island and I usually serve a buffet of finger foods and appetizers. These pierogies fit right in next to the chips, guacamole and cheese and crackers. Set out a few cocktails and you have a party!
Ingredients
- Bacon – Choose thick-cut bacon for a heartier bite. Cook the bacon until just starting to crisp so it stays pliable for wrapping the pierogi without breaking.
- Frozen Pierogi – Opt for large pierogi for a sturdier appetizer that holds up well to being wrapped in bacon. You can use either pierogi with potato and cheese filling or meat. Allow the pierogi to partially thaw before cooking for even sautéing.
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese – Use sharp cheddar for bold flavor, and shred it yourself for better melting. Pre-shredded cheese often contains additives that affect melting quality.
- Sour Cream – Select full-fat sour cream for a creamier texture. Serve it cold for dipping to contrast with the warm pierogi. You can also mix in herbs or a dash of garlic for added flavor.
How to Make Bacon Wrapped Pierogi
- Step 1: Partially cook the bacon in a large frying pan on medium heat for a few minutes but not crisp. Remove from pan onto paper towels to let cool.
- Step 2: Add pierogi to pan and saute in bacon grease on low heat for about 5 to 7 minutes turning occasionally. Remove from pan and let cool. Do in batches if necessary.
- Step 3: Wrap the bacon around each pierogi and place on a baking sheet. Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle cheese on each pierogi. Bake for another few minutes or until cheese melts.
- Step 4: Serve with sour cream for dipping.
Hint: Secure with toothpick or skewer to make this pierogi appetizer easy to serve and eat.
Variations/Substitutions
- Turkey Bacon – For a lighter option, use turkey bacon instead of pork. It won’t crisp as much, so be mindful not to overcook it during the initial fry.
- Different Cheese – Swap cheddar for mozzarella, pepper jack, or gouda for a new flavor twist.
- Flavored Pierogi – Try experimenting with different pierogi fillings like sauerkraut, mushroom, or spinach and feta for variety in flavor.
- Vegan or Vegetarian – Use plant-based bacon and dairy-free cheese, along with vegan pierogi, for a meatless version.
- Spices and Seasonings – Add a sprinkle of fresh dill, smoked paprika or garlic powder to the cheese before melting for extra depth of flavor.
- Dipping Sauces – While sour cream is a classic, you could serve these with ranch dressing, spicy sriracha mayo, chipotle mayo, or honey mustard for a unique twist.

Cooking Tips
- Be sure to only partially cook the bacon before wrapping the pierogi. This ensures it will crisp up in the oven without overcooking.
- Secure the bacon with toothpicks or small skewers to prevent it from unraveling during baking. This also makes them easier to serve and eat.
- When sautéing the pierogi, work in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- These appetizers are best served straight from the oven while the cheese is melted and gooey.
- Store any leftover pierogi in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes to maintain their crispy texture. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the bacon soggy.
- Keep several boxes of pierogies in the freezer. They can also be used for a quick dinner. I sometimes make pierogi covered in chili or meat sauce and we have an easy meal.
Serving Suggestions
This bacon and cheese-wrapped pierogi appetizer is perfect for serving as a hearty starter or alongside a light salad to create a complete meal. Pair them with a Strawberry Avocado Salad with Fresh Mozzarella and Walnuts or a Classic House Salad for a refreshing contrast to the savory richness of the pierogi.
For extra flavor, serve these appetizers with a side of Creamy Garlic Dipping Sauce that perfectly complements the bacon and cheese. You can also make them part of a larger spread, alongside other crowd-pleasing options like Air Fryer Popcorn Shrimp, Charcuterie Skewers, or Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings for a delicious appetizer lineup.

I didn't discover pierogi until I dated a Polish guy. And boy, am I ever glad that I did! His grandma would make them from scratch and serve them with a brown butter + caramelized onion sauce. Heavenly. But, I don't have time to make them, I buy them all the time 🙂
