When you’re craving something cool, crisp, and a little bit fancy—without the alcohol—a Mojito Mocktail hits the spot. This refreshing twist on the classic cocktail is packed with zesty lime, fresh mint, and just the right touch of sweetness. It’s the kind of drink that feels like summer in a glass.

A icy highboy glass with a refreshing mint and lime virgin mojito.

Especially in the summer, I love having a refreshing drink in hand—but I don’t always want the alcohol. This Mojito Mocktail is minty, lime-y, and so cooling, it practically is summer in a glass. It’s perfect for those sunny afternoons by the pool or slow evenings on the patio, watching the fireflies flicker to life. It feels a little celebratory, like something you'd serve at a gathering, but without the brain fuzz—making it ideal for any occasion.

I always keep a healthy patch of mint growing in my garden, so whipping up a virgin mojito like this is easy anytime I'd like to. The combination of fresh mint and tart lime gives it that crisp, clean flavor I love, and a splash of bubbly club soda makes it feel fancy. If you’ve never tried a “nojito” before, this simple version is a great place to start—no special tools, no fuss, just a super refreshing drink that everyone can enjoy, even the kiddos.

    Ingredients

Ingredients needed for a virgin mojito.
    • Lime Juice – Use fresh limes for the best flavor. Roll them on the counter before juicing to get more juice. Bottled lime juice can work in a pinch but won’t be as bright.
    • Fresh Mint Leaves – Look for vibrant, unbruised leaves. Tear them by hand to release the oils. Spearmint is the traditional variety, but any fresh mint will work.
    • Agave Syrup – Adds a mild, natural sweetness. You can substitute simple syrup, honey or maple syrup if preferred.
    • Club Soda or Sparkling Water – Use chilled soda for the most refreshing drink. Flavored sparkling water can be used for a twist.
    • Lime Slices and Mint Leaves for Garnish – Optional, but adds a fresh, pretty touch. Thinly slice extra limes and use sprigs of mint with the leaves intact.

See recipe card below for exact quantities and instructions.

    Instructions

Nojito ingredients are combined in a glass pitcher.
    1. Step 1: Cut the limes in half and squeeze the juice into a small pitcher. Tear the fresh mint leaves into smaller pieces and add them. Pour in the agave syrup and stir well. Add club soda and desired amount of ice. Mix to combine.
A mojito mocktail is poured into a highboy glass with with and garnished with lime and mint.
    1. Step 2: Taste the drink and adjust the sweetness by adding more agave syrup or soda water if desired. Pour into individual serving glasses. Garnish if desired.

Hint: Gently tear the mint leaves to release the oils and enhance the refreshing minty flavor.

    Variations/Substitutions

    • Swap the Sweetener – Use honey, maple syrup or simple syrup made with sugar and water instead of agave syrup.
    • Use Flavored Sparkling Water – Flavored sparkling water can add a boost of flavor without added sugar.
    • Make it Fruity – Muddle in fresh berries like raspberries, strawberries or blackberries for a fruity twist.
    • Add Citrus – Mix in orange or lemon juice for a more complex citrus flavor.
    • Try a Soda Base – Use lemon-lime soda like Sprite or 7 Up instead of club soda for a sweeter, more classic soda-style mocktail. (This option is perfect for kids who want a "fancy" drink.)
    • Add More Herbs – Add a few fresh basil leaves for an earthy twist.
    • Serve Frozen – Blend the ingredients with ice for a slushy-style mojito mocktail.

    Equipment

You really don’t need anything fancy to make this drink—just a knife, a spoon, and a way to juice your limes. But if you want to elevate the presentation, a clear glass pitcher shows off the fresh mint and lime slices beautifully. Serve it in Collins glasses or highball glasses for that classic mojito look and a little extra flair.

    Prep and Storage

You can prep the lime juice and tear the mint leaves a few hours ahead of time—just keep them covered in the fridge until you're ready to mix. If you want to make the whole drink in advance, combine the lime juice, mint, and agave syrup ahead of time, then add the club soda and ice just before serving so it stays bubbly and fresh. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for a day, but the mint will lose its punch and the soda will go flat, so it's best enjoyed fresh.

    Top Tips

    • Use fresh lime juice for the brightest, cleanest flavor.
    • Tear mint leaves instead of chopping to release oils without bitterness.
    • Start with a small amount of agave syrup and adjust to taste.
    • Chill the ingredients and glasses before serving for maximum refreshment.
    • Add club soda or sparkling water just before serving to keep it fizzy.
    • Crushed ice works best for quick chilling and a great look.
    • Garnish with fresh mint and lime slices for a polished finish.

    FAQ

What's the difference between a regular Mojito and a Mojito Mocktail?

A Mojito Mocktail skips the rum, making it alcohol-free but still packed with the same minty-lime flavor.

Can I make this with bottled lime juice?

You can, but fresh lime juice gives a much brighter and more refreshing flavor.

    Is a Virgin Mojito a kid-friendly drink?

Yes! It’s alcohol-free and naturally sweetened, making it a fun and safe option for all ages.

    Serving Suggestions

This Mojito Mocktail is perfect served alongside fresh, summery dishes and makes a great addition to any party spread. Pair it with something flavorful like this juicy Cuban Chicken or set out a few easy appetizers like Old Bay Shrimp, Charcuterie Skewers or Zesty Guacamole.

For guests who do want a cocktail, Easy Fresh Strawberry Mojitos or an Orange Basil Cocktail would complement the same bold flavors. Add a pitcher of Homemade Strawberry Lemonade or Strawberry Lemon Water with Fresh Mint for another non-alcoholic option everyone can enjoy.
