Air fryer buffalo wings may get all the attention, but air fryer garlic parmesan chicken wings are the real show stopper. Delicious garlic and salty parmesan cheese combined with the incredible crispiness courtesy of this simple air fryer method make this chicken wings recipe the best appetizer.
Serve buttery garlic parmesan air fryer wings at your next party or game day gathering. This family favorite also makes a great weeknight main dish when served with a side salad and a few of your favorite side dishes.
Garlic parmesan chicken wings are made with simple ingredients so you can recreate your favorite chicken recipes at home without having to make a special trip to the grocery store. Air frying keeps the cooking time down and your cooked wings will still have that crispy texture and great flavor. It is one of my family favorites when it comes to air fryer recipes.
Ingredients
- Chicken – Use 12 chicken wing pieces or about 1 ½ pounds of wings. Here are some answers if you are wondering how many chicken wings there are in a pound.
- Butter – Salted butter is my preference for this recipe. Use melted butter.
- Garlic Powder – Garlic powder is preferred to fresh garlic because of the reduced risk of burning. If you prefer to use fresh garlic make sure it is finely minced.
- Parsley – Dried parsley is convenient and most people have it in their pantry.
- Salt and Black Pepper
- Cornstarch – Tossing the wings in cornstarch helps you get perfectly crispy wings.
- Parmesan Cheese – The parmesan coating is the star of this recipe. You can use freshly grated parmesan or store bought grated cheese.
See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients, exact quantities, instructions and nutritional information.
Instructions
- Add wings to a large bowl. Sprinkle with salt and pepper then add the corn starch and toss the wings until fully coated.
2. Spray the air fryer basket or rack with cooking oil for best results. Place the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes or until wings are cooked and golden brown.
3. Add butter, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir and bring to a boil. Once boiling, remove and set to the side.
4. Remove the cooked wings and add to a large bowl. Add the garlic butter sauce and half the Parmesan cheese. Toss to fully coat each wing. Return wings to the air fryer to get sauce heated and wings crispy.
Hint: When returning wings to air fryer basket, add even a few more minutes if you like your wings extra crispy. Toss the wings with the remaining cheese and serve.
Variations/ Substitutions
There are many ways to change this air fryer wing recipe. Here are some of my ideas:
- Spicy – Make the garlic parmesan sauce spicy by adding in a bit of buffalo sauce or crushed red pepper flakes for a flavor reminiscent of hot wings.
- Dipping Sauce – Serve this chicken wing recipe with your favorite dipping sauce or dressing. My family loves my homemade caesar dressing or ranch dressing.
- Baking Powder – Replace the cornstarch with baking powder for another way to get incredibly crispy chicken wings.
- Fresh Parsley – Garnish the cooked wings with fresh parsley instead of dried parsley.
How to Store & Reheat Leftover Chicken Wings
Leftover wings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
To reheat the wings, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees and heat the leftover wings for 2 to 3 minutes. They could be heated in the microwave for 60 to 90 seconds but you will not a get the same crispy crust on the wings.
Recipe Tips
- Bring chicken wings to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
- If purchasing whole wings, cut them into separate pieces by removing the wing dip and dividing the flats and drums.
- If using frozen wings, thaw them completely before cooking.
- Dry the chicken wings with a paper towel before tossing in cornstarch.
- If using freshly grated parmesan cheese, make sure it is grated to a fine texture.
- If the wings aren't browning to your personal preference, spritz them with a bit of cooking spray.
- Place wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Turn wings halfway through cooking.
- After coating in the parmesan sauce, return the wings to the airfryer for a few minutes to set the sauce.
Top tip
Always check for doneness with a meat thermometer. Chicken should be cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
Serving Suggestions
There is no wrong way to serve wings but pairing them with carrot and celery sticks and blue cheese dressing or your favorite sauce is a classic pairing.
Serve garlic parmesan chicken wings with a Caesar salad or a simple side salad with a vinaigrette dressing. Add your favorite mealtime sides such as french fries, mashed potatoes or potato salad.
Garlic parm wings also make a great appetizer and can be served at a party along with other appetizers and finger foods. A few of my favorites include:

Yes! To bake these in the oven place them on an oven-proof rack on a baking sheet and bake in a 425 degree F oven for 40-50 minutes.

How many servings are in this recipe

Karen,
This makes 12 wing pieces so I think it's good for two people unless you are serving other appetizers and everyone is only having a few each.
