Spooky Cupcakes

Hope everyone had a happy halloween! We sure did. It was packed with parties, trick or treating and plenty of treats. I am just coming down from the sugar rush it gave me.

This month the Sweet and Simple Bakes was a butter cupcake decorated in the Halloween theme. These cupcakes are pretty spooky, aren’t they? The kids were really excited about making these and here is some of their creations. Haunted house, weird islands, the blue hat, monster catastrophe and the witch were the names their cupcakes were given. Take a look…….

I was going to make my own icing however there was a protest against it. The kids wanted the fluffy frosting right out of the can. Silly kids! The fluffy frosting ended up all over the kitchen and even the dog was frosted. The greasy spot of frosting wiped right off with a paper towel.

If you would like the cupcake recipe, click here. After I baked them, I realized I made a booboo (no Halloween pun intended). I had used only 1 stick of butter rather than the stick and a half the recipe called for. The cupcakes were rather brown on the edges and I am not sure if this was due to my butter mistake or a hot oven. I only baked them for 20 minutes. I think when I make them again I will only use one stick of butter but lower the oven teperature to 375 degrees. Thank you Rosie and Maria for organizing another wonderful bake.

How fun for the kids! That canned frosting can be really nasty tasting. Trust a kid to want it!

I like the ones with the rings because then when you’re done eating you can have a sticky treat to wear.

Of of my favorite things growing up was decorating holiday type cupcakes with mom. I think something tastes alot better with spiders and sprinkles on it 🙂
