Lucky Charms Cereal Bars are colorful and magically delicious. Perfect for St. Patrick's Day or Easter, you can whip up these no bake cereal bars with just 3 ingredients. Invite your kids to join in on the fun and make these easy Lucky Charm Bars in just a few minutes.
Rice Krispie treats are a classic snack that kids (and adults) love. These Lucky Charm treats are just as easy to make, but using cereal with colorful marshmallows is such a fun twist.
You can certainly make these yummy marshmallow cereal bars all year round, but they are especially perfect for the spring holidays. Think St. Patrick's Day, Easter, May Day, Spring Equinox or whatever you are celebrating. They'd also be the perfect addition to a unicorn or rainbow-themed birthday party.
The best part of these no bake cereal bars is involving the kids. They can be made stovetop or with the microwave, so it's the perfect introductory treat for kids interested in learning how to cook.
Ingredients
- Lucky Charms – Find Lucky Charms in the cereal aisle of your grocery store. There are also several generic versions that work just as well.
- Butter – You can use salted or unsalted butter. If you use unsalted like I did but enjoy a sweet and salty juxtaposition in your snacks, you can add a bit of salt.
- Marshmallows – Mini marshmallows melt faster, but you can use regular size marshmallows and cut them into smaller pieces to make them melt easier.
See recipe card below for exact quantities and instructions.
How to Make Lucky Charms Cereal Bars
- Combine the butter and 8 cups of marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 2 minutes until the marshmallows are melted.
2. Add the cereal and the additional marshmallows to the melted mixture and stir to combine.
3. Press the no bake cereal bars into a baking pan that has been sprayed with a bit of non-stick spray.
4. Let the bars set for about an hour then cut into squares.
Hint: Don't forget to reserve 2 cups of marshmallows to mix in along with the cereal.
Substitutions/ Variations
- Gluten Free - Lucky Charms are naturally gluten free and certified so my General Mills. If using an off-brand, be sure to check the packaging.
- Extra Magical - Did you know you can buy bags of just the Lucky Charms marshmallows? Toss in a few handfuls for extra magical treats.
- Salted Butter - If you love the combination of sweet and salty, use salted butter or add in a bit of kosher salt when you melt the marshmallows.
- Make Shapes – Instead of pressing the mixture into a baking pan, spread it onto parchment paper and allow it to cool before cutting out shapes with cookie cutters.
- Add Chocolate – Melt chocolate or colored melting wafers and drizzle or dunk the finished bars.
Storage
Wrap the treats in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container to keep them nice and soft. You can keep these at room temperature for up to a week, but they will be at their best for 2-3 days.
No Bake Cereal Bars Top Tips
- Use FRESH ingredients. Fresh marshmallows and fresh cereal are the key to tasty Lucky Charms cereal bars.
- If you want super thick treats, double the recipe or use an 8x8 pan.
- Don’t press the mixture down into the pan too hard or you’ll make the treats tough. They’ll pack really tight making them tough and hard to cut. Pack them down lightly!
- Wet your hands to prevent the mixture from sticking to you as you press it into the pan.
- Store tightly wrapped with plastic wrap for up to two days. Treats are best the day made or the very next day.

FAQ
Yes! In a large pot, combine the marshmallows and butter. Stir constantly over low to medium heat until melted. Stir in the cereal and additional marshmallows until everything is coated with the melted marshmallow mixture. Transfer to a prepared baking pan to cool.
A 16oz. bag of mini marshmallows is approximately 9 cups. This recipe calls for 10 cups so you'll want to pick up 2 bags of marshmallows. Pro Tip: Marshmallows keep really well in the freezer. Pop the leftovers into a freezer bag and you can add a few to your morning coffee or hot cocoa.

- 6 cups Lucky Charms cereal
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

- Spray a 9x13 cake pan with nonstick cooking spray. Add the cereal mixture to the pan and gently spread evenly to fill the pan. Sprinkle the remaining one cup of cereal over the top and lightly press to make sure it sticks to the top.
