Frozen Banana Bark has taken the social media world by storm—and for good reason. This viral banana bark's got everything: the creamy sweetness of bananas, a swirl of rich peanut butter, and a snappy layer of chocolate that cracks just right with every bite.

Frozen banana bark has gone viral because it checks all the boxes for the perfect snack. It’s made with just a few simple ingredients you probably already have on hand, and the combo of creamy peanut butter, sweet banana, and rich dark chocolate is seriously hard to beat. Plus, it is lower in sugar than many sweets are, so you get that satisfying sweet-and-salty bite without the sugar crash. A small square of banana bark is all it takes to curb a craving, whether it hits mid-afternoon or after dinner.
What I love most is how easy these are to make and stash in the freezer. I keep a container tucked away so I can grab a piece of chocolate banana bark whenever I need a quick pick-me-up. It’s the kind of snack that feels like a treat but still keeps things light, which is probably why viral banana bark recipes are all over social media right now. You're going to love this freezer snack.
Ingredients
- Bananas – Use ripe but firm bananas for the best texture and sweetness. Avoid overripe bananas, as they’ll be too soft and mushy once frozen.
- Dark Chocolate Chips – Choose a good-quality dark chocolate for a rich flavor. You can also use semi-sweet or milk chocolate if you prefer something sweeter, or dairy-free chips for a vegan option.
- Creamy Peanut Butter – Go for a smooth, no-stir peanut butter for easy melting and spreading. Natural peanut butter can work too, but stir it well before using. Almond or cashew butter are great alternatives.
- Coarse Sea Salt – Adds a perfect salty crunch and enhances all the flavors. Flaky sea salt or kosher salt work well too—just sprinkle lightly.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- Step 1: Line a 11x15 baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the three bananas into ½-inch slices. Place the sliced bananas touching each other on the sheet pan in a rectangular shape, leaving some room on the sides of the pan.
- Step 2: Pour melted peanut butter over the top of the banana slices. Try not to pour it off the edges of the bananas and keep it closer to the center. Use a rubber spatula to gently spread the peanut butter over the bananas evenly. Freeze for 30 minutes.
- Step 3: Pour melted chocolate over the top of the peanut butter and bananas. Use a clean rubber spatula to gently spread the chocolate even across the peanut butter sheet. Sprinkle salt over the chocolate.
- Step 4: Place the bark back in the freezer for 20-30 minutes or until hardened. Break into pieces and enjoy!
Hint: Avoid using overripe bananas; instead, choose ones that are ripe but still slightly firm.
Variations/ Substitutions
- Nut Butter Swaps – Try almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter for a different flavor or to make it nut-free.
- Chocolate Options – Use white chocolate or milk chocolate for a sweeter twist, or swirl two types together for a marbled look.
- Add Some Crunch – Sprinkle chopped nuts, granola, or crushed pretzels on top before freezing for extra texture.
- Fruity Add-Ins – Add sliced strawberries, blueberries, or dried fruit like cranberries or coconut flakes for more flavor and color.
- Yogurt - A layer of Greek yogurt can add protein and a tangy flavor.
- Protein Boost – Stir a little protein powder into the peanut butter before melting for a more filling snack.

Equipment
You don’t need much to make banana bark, but a few basic tools make it easier. Line your tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
A silicone spatula is perfect for spreading the melted peanut butter and chocolate evenly without tearing the banana layer.
Be sure to choose a baking tray that fits flat inside your freezer—this helps the bark set evenly and keeps it from getting smushed or tipped while freezing.
Storage
Once your banana bark is fully frozen and broken into pieces, transfer it to an airtight container or a freezer-safe zip-top bag. Keep it in the freezer, where it will stay fresh for up to two weeks.
For the best texture and flavor, let a piece sit at room temperature for a minute or two before enjoying it—it softens just enough to make every bite extra satisfying.
Top Tips
- Slice bananas evenly so they freeze at the same rate and layer smoothly.
- Try not to spread peanut butter or chocolate all the way to the edges to prevent overflow and easier clean-up.
- Freeze between each layer to prevent mixing.
- Melted chocolate can firm up fast, so spread it right away for an even top layer.
- A sprinkle of coarse salt balances the sweetness and really brings out the flavors.
FAQ
Stored in an airtight container, it stays fresh for up to two weeks. After that, it may start to get icy or lose texture.
You can use crunchy peanut butter, but creamy spreads more evenly. You can also sprinkle chopped nuts over the chocolate.
For cleaner cuts, let the frozen banana bark sit at room temp for a couple of minutes or score the chocolate before fully freezing.
