Recently I was invited to a bloggers tasting event at the Silver Diner in Cherry Hill, NJ. Living in Jersey all my life, I am very familiar with diner food. I have always loved diners but they don't have a reputation of having the most healthy choices. So when I received the invitation, I starting dreaming of big plates of meatloaf, piled high club sandwiches with extra bacon, large portions of mashed potatoes and french fries with gravy, chicken salad sandwiches, creamy bowls of rice pudding and mile high pieces of cheesecake. When I arrived at the Silver Diner, I was pleasantly surprised!

Restaurant co- founders, Bob Giamo and Executive Chef Ype Von Hengst traveled from Washington, DC to talk about their new Eat Well, Do Well menu selection. All of Silver Diner's 18 locations are providing a family oriented menu that makes use of local, farm fresh ingredients and hormone free meats to encourage customers to have a healthy approach to eating. This menu was right up my alley! I don't always count calories however I try to add the freshest local ingredients to my family's diet.

After the presentation the restaurant had a fabulous buffet set up for us. We really enjoyed one tasty dinner! Here are some of the delicious menu items we were able to sample:

    *All natural chicken tenders
    *Black bean quesadillas

    *All natural turkey sliders

    *Grass fed beef sliders
*Pesto, Jersey tomato, fresh mozzarella sandwiches

    *Summer Citrus salad

    *Chopped Cobb salad

    *Chesapeake Bay crab cakes
    *Terriyaki Chicken and Salmon

*Local Cajun Mahi Mahi with lemon sauce
    *Gluten free shrimp scampi

    *Locally roasted Lacas Iced coffee

*Local NJ strawberry and blueberry cobbler

    * Philadelphia Cream cheese cheesecake

    sandwiches on a platter

Believe it or not, I think I had at least a bite of everything and I can honestly say there was not a thing I didn't like. All the food was fresh and delicious and the company was awesome too. Not only did I get to make some new friends, I was able to hang out with two of my favorite food blogging buddies, Lisa and John Fusco who write the blog, John and Lisa Eating in South Jersey. And they had their adorable children with them who were the perfect kid food testers.

Silver Diner has locations in NJ, Maryland and Virginia. If you are looking for a reasonably priced family friendly restaurant with delicious healthy choices, this is the place to go. All of the diners have a family night with special events for the kids. The Silver Diner menu is constantly being changed and they have great seasonal selections.

Whether, it's for breakfast, lunch, dinner, brunch or dessert, I love going there!

Good to know that the Silver Diner makes efforts to be healthy and conscious of where they purchase their food. I did not know that! We eat there from time to time b/c the kids like it. Knowing that the place is health conscious will make me more inclined to go back. (of course, I am a mile high mashed potato gal myself! LOL!) Interesting article, Lisa!
