I spent 4 days in Texas on a Dallas food and fun getaway. Steak, BBQ and fried chicken were part of the itinerary.Read about all the great food I had.

IMG_6636I'm back to my blog and I have to say I've been eating pretty well lately. Two weeks ago, the family and I took a nice long weekend trip to the Dallas/ Fort Worth area.  We did some fun things and ate way too much. I don't like to tell secrets like this but I gained 5 pounds in one weekend. Luckily I was able to hide everything by wearing some cowgirl attire. My daughter and I really loved the rodeo.

Let me show you some of the Dallas food that we indulged in.

    Dallas ribeye steak

    Texas Ribeye

First there was a big ribeye steak when we arrived. Right off the plane, we drove to Dunston's.  This was not your typical high- end chain steakhouse. It is a place that has been around for 55 years. When I imagine what Texas would be like, this place came to my mind. It was not fancy but just great steak, loaded baked potatoes and a good salad bar. I know how to cook a perfect steak but I love when someone else also does it for me. The prices were reasonable and steaks do not cost the same as a pair of jeans here. Check out this bone-in ribeye. Mmmmnnn!

IMG_6759 (2)Of course we needed to have a little Tex Mex so that came from Papasitos. They served us some great fajitas! The chicken was good but oh, the steak! No knife necessary for this steak. It was seasoned well and so tender.

    BBQ (Dallas food)

    Dallas BBQ

Next it was time for some Texas barbecue. We hit the Pecan Lodge in the Deep Ellum section of Dallas. This is ranked as some of the best barbecue in Texas and I have to agree. We tried the platter of ribs, pulled pork, and brisket with a side of macaroni and cheese which was spicy with jalapenos in it. The meat was tender and the mac and cheese was creamy and rich. I had a few bites of each because I  needed to save room for the Pitmaster which is their signature sandwich. So good!

IMG_6724 (2)And then there was the fried okra. If you've never had okra before, I beg you to try it fried. It is definitely not healthy but so good. I was told to order some by the customers in front of me and happy that we obliged. Did I mention the line to this place was out the door? Yes, there was a wait but worth every minute.

IMG_6732Several people had told me about Babes Chicken Dinner House so this was our last feast of the vacation. We ordered the smoked chicken and fried chicken. It comes with family style sides of biscuits, green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy. The pictures explain it all. It was delicious but after this meal I was ready to go home and detox on raw vegetables for a few days.
