How to Freeze and Reheat Cooked Rice

Follow these instructions to freeze precooked rice an reheat it in the microwave or a pot.

Instructions

  • Prepare rice. Cool until it comes to room temperature.
  • Freeze in plastic freezer bags or plastic air tight containers.
  • Reheat on the stove top in the oven or in the microwave. See notes below for each method and more details.
  • Add to your favorite recipe.

Notes

Reheat Rice in a pot:
  • Dump the frozen rice into a sauce pan, breaking up any large chunks.
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of water and cover with a lid.
  • Cook over medium-low heat stirring occasionally until the rice is warmed through.
  • Fluff and serve.
Reheat Rice in the oven:
  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
  • Place frozen rice in a baking dish or pan and sprinkle with ½ tablespoon of water per cup of rice.
  • Cover the dish with foil and place in the oven for 20-30 minutes or until heated through.
Reheat Rice in Microwave:
  • Break the frozen rice into chunks and place them into a mircrowave-safe container or bowl.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and microwave in 60 second increments for about 2 to 3 minutes or until rice is steaming hot.
