South Jersey food is good! Here are my latest adventures.
I can't believe the holiday season is here! For the last three weekends I have been at my son's soccer tournaments but now they are over and I will be busy working on holiday treats and holiday menus. I'll be sure to share some of my favorites especially on my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. But today I want to share with you some of the wonderful places and events I have been to in southern NJ recently.
Last month I attended GCIT's food festival. The school hosted food competitions and local restaurants from around Gloucester County. Student competitions included cake decorating, cupcake decorating, and a lunch Showcase. For me, the highlight of the night was the food truck competition where ten culinary teams designed their own food truck displays and a signature menu item. These high school students are so talented and creative.
Over 400 tickets were sold to the event and I got to taste things like pineapple delight, chicken and waffle bites and lemonade macaroons. Not only was it pleasing to the palate, it was fun to see the different truck fronts that the students designed. How cute is this taco truck front?
This past fall, I was frequently at the Princeton farmers market on Thursdays. There were wonderful fall produce displays, scrumptious baked goods, cider donuts, pickles, cheeses, honey and so much other good stuff. The outside market ended right before Thanksgiving but will start up again next week. Once a month during the winter months, the market vendors will be set up in the library. I can't wait to go back for some winter produce and treats.
I have talked about how awesome the CSA farm I joined is. The produce season ended right before Thanksgiving. Last month Fernbrook Farms had an end of the year potluck dinner to celebrate their successful year and thank everyone that made it possible. It was a fun dinner with great south jersey food and good company!
I can't wait until spring when the produce bounty starts up again. I always look forward to making all my summer produce recipes when the fruit and veggies are plentiful. In the meantime, I will be reminiscing about my drive up their driveway and I will continue to use up all the wonderful produce I stocked up in my freezer.
Come back on Sunday morning for a shortbread recipe and holiday cookie extravaganza.
