    Hoagie Dip Appetizer Idea

First Published: December 6, 2012 . Last Modified: December 6, 2012 lisa7 Comments This post may contain affiliate links

Today's recipe is really not a recipe. It's more of an appetizer idea. It's also a way to recycle the kids lunch or make something new with the leftover holiday antipasto tray.

I am always looking for quick and easy appetizers. I could skip the entree anytime. Sometimes my husband and I will have a late night dinner after the kids go to bed.  At ten PM, I do not want  a big steak and mashed potatoes. My husband might but that is another post. I like to have  small plates that go well with a cocktail or glass of wine. So I am always coming up with new appetizers.

I came up with this idea by rummaging through the fridge and using lunch leftovers. We had a few slices of  salami, ham and cheese. I also spotted a few jars of peppers on the back shelf.  I just chopped everything up and added a tablespoon of creamy Italian dressing. Slice a few pieces of a baguette and you have yourself an appetizer!

Are you thinking about what you will put in your hoagie dip?

Here are some ideas that work:

    • salami
    • ham
    • pepperoni
    • pickled mushrooms
    • chopped lettuce,onions or tomatoes
    • chopped olives
    • any type of cheese
    • turkey
    • bacon
    • avocado

Use your imagination! I mix about a cup of chopped hoagie fix-ins with 1 to 2 tablespoons of  Italian dressing. If you like mayonnaise, you can use that. Caesar dressing works well too.  Toast your bread if you like but you can also be lazy like me and just serve it sliced.

You can double or triple this ingredients if your having a party. It's all good!

Good idea and know what you mean about a lite meal that late at nite.

Hubby is the same, would eat a steak/potato then have 2 bowls of ice cream.

I love this recipe. My husband and I eat after the kids go to bed sometimes, too (eating in peace is such a treat) and you're right about eating light when it's 9 or 10 at night. Love this idea!!

I'm pinning this dip. This would be great for our monthly wine time gathering.
