Turn empty wine bottles into cool DIY wine bottle candles. So easy and perfect for the holidays and a great DIY holiday project! Let's do some recycling!
I know how to cook but crafty I am not. Since this project involved drinking some wine first, I didn't think it would be a problem. This is a simple project that I always do near the holidays.
How To Make DIY Wine Bottle Candles
First I rounded up some empty wine bottles. It wasn't hard since it is holiday time. Just remove the labels and scrub them in a sink full of hot soapy water. Let them dry and they are ready to be transformed.
Next I bought some silver spray paint. My sweet husband made this bottle stand holder for me. Basically, it is two pieces of wood with a bolt placed through a hole in the wood. This makes it much easier to stand up the bottle while spray painting it. If you can't make one, that is not a problem. You can always set the bottle on newspaper and spray paint it from there. You will have to turn it around a few times after it dries to make sure the whole bottle is covered.
Next I spray painted the bottle. Make sure to be 10 to 12 inches away and spray lightly to avoid dripping. You will need to do multiple light coats. The bottle needs to dry. This only took about a half hour.
After the bottle was set and dry, I tied on some festive ribbon and inserted some cork candles. In just a few simple steps, you have some very cool wine bottle candles.
If I can do this, anyone can. If you are having a party for New Year's eve, do something fun with the empty bottles. Even though the holidays are over, the bottles would make a great table decor for Valentines Day. You could really get creative and do some fun winter wonderland ones too. The great part is that you pick the paint to match your decor.
It was fun to use wine bottles but in the future, I might try making mini ones with beer or soda bottles. What do you think? Have you ever recycled bottles into something else?

I like your idea.
I've been using them and any glass for making glass mulch in my flower bed.
I wish I could find a bar close by that has a lot of them.

You're a great cook AND crafty? Somehow I didn't get that second gene! Loving your candle holders...I'm certain my spray paint job would not be so perfect 😉 The cork candles are a cute touch, too.
