The Philly Vendy Awards

vendy awardsI love the food truck concept. As a kid, I refused to eat hot dogs from a supermarket package but loved getting a Sabrett hot dog from a street cart. Then I went to college and enjoyed late night food from Rutger’s “grease trucks“.   They were known for serving fat sandwiches with all kinds of things in the middle. Burgers topped with chicken fingers, French fries, and mozzarella sticks were not uncommon. Who doesn’t like some extra grease at 2am after visiting the college bars?

But as a grown up, I love how cities have food trucks that serve all kinds of gourmet food.  This coming, I will be feasting on some of the best street food in Philadelphia. I am headed to the Philadelphia Vendy Awards. Fourteen trucks will be competing for titles. There are three awards: the Vendy Cup, Rookie od the Year and Best Dessert.

Here are the contestants!

Vendy Cup Contestants:

Cow and the Curd

Local 215

Piestand

Prime Stache

Samosa Deb

Rookie of the Year Contestants (open less than one year)

Cheese E. Wagon

Oink and Moo BBQ

Smokin’ Tacos

The Whirly Pig

Heart Food Truck

Dessert Contestants

Bonjour Creperie

Curbside Creamery

Jimmies Cupcake Co.

Milk + Sugar

Not only will I get to try fabulous food but there will also be live music and great beer and ciders to try.  The best part is that this event is a fundraiser and the proceeds go to the Food Trust. You can still purchase tickets online if you would like to go. Tickets cost $55 and the event will be held at Penn Treaty Park.  It’s going to be one great day!

Now I want to share some mouth watering food photos from last year’s awards. Thanks to the Vendy awards Facebook page for letting me borrow their photos.  Feast your eyes! Hope to see you there!

I have the same bias—-rarely eat a hot dog—-BUT if its a food truck, I wolf one down with total enjoyment. I had no idea there was a Vendor Prize. Portland Ore should do that or maybe they do. They have been touted the food truck capital!
