American Buttercream Frosting
Whip up this fluffy vanilla frosting with just a few ingredients. A quick and creamy American buttercream everyone loves.

- 2 sticks salted butter room temperature
- 1- pound powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1- 4 tbsps heavy cream
Cream the butter until it becomes fluffy.
Add the powdered sugar, vanilla and 1 tablespoon cream to the bowl.
Mix together until ingredients are incorporated but do not over mix.
Add an additional spoon of cream. Beat on high for about 3 more minutes or until frosting is fluffy and a pale yellow color. Add another spoon or two of cream if the buttercream is too thick. This will also giving the buttercream a silky texture.
Recipe can also use unsalted butter and then add a pinch of salt when creamimg butter. This is a great way to control the sodium content.
Be creative and add flavorings. You can try lemon, orange, coconut, almond or whatever you like to give the frosting a twist.
Half of the butter can be substituted with shortening. This will make the frosting more stable and especially good if you are not using it right away.
This recipe makes enough to frost 12 cupcakes or one 9x13 inch cake.
