Happy Chinese New Year! Today starts the lunar year celebration as we welcome 2012 as the year of the dragon. If you didn't have an Asian feast for dinner tonight, don't worry as the celebration lasts 15 days . You still have plenty of time to celebrate. It is fun to make food from other cultures and have something a little different for dinner.
If you aren't familiar with cooking Asian food , Sun-Bird Seasonings can be your best friend. I love the seasoning packets as they only require a few ingredients but still taste authentic. Tonight we had a little Asian buffet and we started out with some General Tso's Shrimp and Edamame. It was easy to make and the whole family loved it. The best part was that it required only one pan.
I have used the General Tso's Chicken seasoning to make chicken before but tonight I thought I would try something new. I had an idea to flavor some crispy shrimp and edamame. This was perfect to serve on small plates before a meal or you could serve it with some brown rice and broccoli and call it a meal. I am an appetizer kind of girl so any chance I have to turn something into an appetizer sounds good to me.
This is what the shrimp looked like before adding the sauce. It went from boring shrimp to a dish with lots of flavor. I like my shrimp crispy so I cooked the shrimp in the pan then added the sauce to the bowl later. This kept the shrimp from becoming soggy. To make the edamame just as flavorful, I cooked them in the pan with some of the leftover sauce. It was the perfect small plate.
