The Best Halloween Treats!

halloween

Just a few days until Halloween…I know, I know.

There are the cheesy, cheap polyester costumes that you had to buy. Kids running through the neighborhood like lunatics. Some grabbing 10 pieces of candy at a time. There’s miles of walking because your kids need to stop by friends houses that live a few neighborhoods over but give out full size candy bars. You just can’t help but follow them in fear that their plastic zombie mask might make them trip while crossing the street . Two pillow sacks of candy later and no one wants to eat dinner including the husband. Did we forget about the dreaded night before where your weeping willow tree gets tangled in two rolls of toilet paper? You realize in the morning that your household is now out of toilet paper and it’s really not so bad to use the one peeled off the tree.

Yes, yes, it’s Halloween!

But let me tell you I love every bit of the day. Several years ago, we started a neighborhood tradition. We pray for good weather and drag our grill out into the driveway. The grill gets fired up and a huge pot of chili gets put on the stove. Our friends and neighbors are invited over for hot dogs and chili. It’s nothing fancy but just a great time to say hello to some neighbors we haven’t seen in a while. My husband and a few other guys in the neighborhood man the grill.  There is usually a secret pumpkin beer stash in our garage especially if Halloween falls on a weekend. And the double bonus of my next door neighbor handing out full size candy bars makes all the kiddos happy.

I want everyone to love the holiday as much as we do. So I picked out Halloween treats from some of my favorite bloggers to make the day a little more festive. Just click on the photo to get to the recipe. Thanks to my blogging buddies for letting me use their photos.

Who cares if the kids eat candy for dinner? It only happens one day of the year.

Awesome post, Lisa! Thanks for including my cookie pizza. I agree, ours kids rarely eat dinner on Halloween–and who cares! It’s all about the candy and treats 😉
Our neighborhood always does a chili cook off before trick or treating.
