This past week I became a homeless cook due to my kitchen renovations. I have no stove, no sink and no oven. Things could be worse as I have a spanking new refrigerator in my garage, two grills and a smoker in my backyard, and a microwave plus coffee maker in my family room. So I have been doing some cooking but it is just not the same when you are without a kitchen. It gives plenty of reasons to eat out.
I always keep a “to do” restaurant list in my phone. I want to be ready in case we “need” to go out to eat. Several restaurants from the Cherry Hill mall are included in this list. Boy, was I ever happy when I heard that the Cherry Hill mall was having a restaurant week on July 14th through July 20th. Discounted lunches and dinners? Sign me up!
I was even happier when I was invited to preview the Capital Grille’s restaurant week menu last Sunday. What better way to spend an afternoon tasting scallops, lobster rolls, Kona rubbed sirloin steak and truffle fries?
I think I have to say the lobster roll with the truffle fries was my favorite. It was succulent lobster meat on a buttery soft toasted roll and perfectly cooked fries with a dusting of Parmesan and truffle oil. Even the hubby loved it and believe it or not he hasn’t had lobster in over 30 years.
The Capital Grille has excellent seafood but steak is their thing. We were able to hear about the dry aging process of their beef and took a peek into the cooler. My husband was fascinated. While some people dream of robbing a bank and what they might do with the money, he was dreaming about breaking into that meat locker and how he could eat dry aged sirloins for months. That probably won’t happen but at least he can dream about his next visit to The Capital Grille during restaurant week.
If you live in the area, why not visit one of these restaurants in July. Nine restaurants will be participating and many take reservations in advance. You can browse all the great menus. I can’t wait to do some good eating and good shopping.
