Next Saturday, May 14, the Food Bank of South Jersey will ask residents to help eliminate hunger in their community by participating in Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest single-day food donation campaign, sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). Local postal carriers will be collecting non perishable food items and delivering them to local food banks and pantries. You do not have to live in NJ to participate because our whole nation will be helping out.
I am very passionate when it comes to food and cooking. I am sure if you are reading my blog, you probably have a love of food also. I have the luxury of going to the grocery store and picking out exactly what I want to eat. But many people don’t. Just in NJ, over 100,000 people need emergency food assistance every year, many of these people being children. This event has made it so easy to help. All you have to do is pick up a few extra items at the grocery store this week. Food banks are always in need of pasta, canned fruits, veggies and proteins such as tuna, chicken and beans. You may already have some extra cans of food in your pantry. I know I do. My family just took these extra items from our pantry and will be picking up more at the grocery store this week.
Please do what you can! We can all make a difference. Don’t forget that Saturday, May 14th is the day we can all stamp out hunger!
On a final note, I wanted to announce the randomly picked giveaway winner for the Naturally Nora baking products. Congrats to That Girl who writes the blog Paved With Good Intentions! Please send me your address and I will mail out the goodies. Have a great weekend everyone!
