A Manly Chocolate Cake

by jerseygirl on April 22, 2010 · 27 comments

My husband requested that I make a chocolate cake for one of his co workers birthday. I scoured the internet and came up with a cake perfect for the occasion. Since my husband works with mostly men, I thought a cake that had stout added to it would be perfect. I found the recipe on Epicurious and the reviews were fabulous so Chocolate Stout Cake it was.

The recipe was supposed to make a huge three layer cake but I felt two layers was enough and used the extra batter to make a dozen cupcakes. I also melted some white chips for a decoration on top of the cake and cupcakes. The cake got great reviews and I loved the moist, chocolaty, but not too sweet cupcakes. The stout definitely cut some of the sweetness and it smelled wonderful while baking. This will probably be my new GO TO chocolate cake!

that sounds lovely – but then again it has both chocolate and beer, so why wouldn't it be?

It certainly looks delicious. Lisa. I'll have to try this one on Bob. Thanks for sharing it with us. I've used stout in gingerbread but never in a chocolate cake. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings…Mary

I love chocolate stout cake. I've made one before and used a white frosting. I would like to try it with your frosting. It sounds so good. I like the fact that they are not too sweet!
