"Tackle the Taste" Old El Paso Giveaway!

by jerseygirl on January 24, 2010 · 22 comments

Yay! It’s time for a giveaway! And this is perfect for football season. So who’s planning on watching the superbowl? A survey was taken and 61 percent of Americans are planning to watch the big game. If you’re watching, you need plenty of paper goods, snacks and drinks, right?

Well you’ve come to the right place. Thanks to Old El Paso and MyBlogSpark, I received this football themed gift pack and now I can give one away to my readers.

This is what is included in the gift pack:

Two free cans of Old El Paso Green Chiles, a football-shaped ceramic serving platter, two sets of football-themed plates, cocktail napkins and a football themed table runner.

I love Old El Paso Green Chiles. They come in 4.5 and 7 oz cans and are a great way to spice up your recipes. I have been trying to cook healthy, so I used some green chiles to liven up my chicken chili recipe. Instead of the jalapenos, I used a small can of chiles. I cooked it in the crockpot and it made the house smell wonderful.

Mmmmmmnnnn Chili!

The chili looks great, Lisa and that's probably what I'd use a can of the green chiles for also. That or chicken enchiladas–ooh,I haven't made those for a while and that sounds really good!

What a great giveaway. I love using green chillies in taco soup. They give the soup such a nice flavor. I don't watch football, unfortunately. None of us are really into it but it'd be fun to get together with friends and family for the big game though! 🙂

I would use the chilis to make queso. Nothing better than a big bowl of queso and chips to eat during the big game.

Hi! I am a regular reader and I love your blog! I am not too far away from you in delaware, so I am an Eagle's fan!I had to share this recipe because it is my favorite way to use diced green chili's, my friends and I brow beat this recipe out of a waitress in little italy in baltimore about 25 years ago- here goes, it has no official name but we quickly started calling it the "hoagie salad" and that name has stuck.

form a paste with 1 clove of garlic mashed into 1 tsp of sugar.
in the old days we added 2 eggs to that- now with people worried about salmonella I just omit the eggs.then add 1/2 cup of veg. oil, 1 tsp of good olive oil and red wine vinegar to taste. add 1 can of old el paso diced green chili's (less if you a wimp)

make a salad with 2 heads of lettuce, i do one iceberg and 1 romaine, tomato, onion, whatever is essential in your salad- add oregano, salt and black pepper (the waitress told us a tablespoon each!) i am never brave enough to do that! so i'll say to taste.

add 1 1/2 cups of freshly grated parmesean before serving

over the years i have started adding homemade croutons because they soak up the hoagie taste so well, enjoy!

I make a pretty good BBQ Chicken and Cheese Rice that uses green chilies…

BBQ CHICKEN AND CHEESE RICE

1/2 stick butter
2 bunches green onions, tops and bottoms, chopped
1/2 small onion, chopped
3 cups cooked Success Rice
2 tablespoons pimentos, chopped
1 can (4 ounces) green chilies
2 cups sour cream
2 cups Monterey Jack cheese, grated
1/2 pound bar-b-qued chicken, chopped

In a large saucepan, sauté onions in the butter until soft. Combine the onions with all the other ingredients, reserving 1 cup of cheese for the topping, Transfer to a lightly greased 8×8 baking dish or larger depending on how thick you want the casserole and top with the remaining cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

My favorite team is the Minnesota Vikings. Very disappointing game on Sunday! I love chiles and would make some dip. Cream cheese, hormel chili, green chiles and monterrey jack cheese. Heat it in the oven. It is yummy!

I use green chiles for chile cheese bread…chiles, grated cheese and mayo mixed together, put on a sliced loaf of french bread and baked till bubbly. It is amazing and always gets gobbled up!!
