Blue Smoke in NYC

Last month, the family and I spent a nice weekend in NYC. Click here to read about our adventures. My friend Stacey from Stacey Snacks gave us an awesome recommendation to go to Blue Smoke. I am glad she did because I never would have thought of going to a barbecue restaurant in NYC. My husband could eat barbecue every night so he was thrilled. This restaurant is part of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group. When you hear that, you know you can’t go wrong.

I have a picky seven year old son but this place was also very kid friendly. They had a nice children’s menu and they brought out these cute little pig cookies for the kids to decorate while we were waiting for our meal. The cookies were baked and wrapped so the kids could take them home.

So what did we order? The husband and I decided to split the Rhapsody in Cue Platter. Of course the husband could have eaten his own platter himself but I convinced him to share as I wanted to be able to eat a Sabrett hot dog from a cart later as a midnight snack. I couldn’t leave NYC without one. This platter was a good way to taste all of their smoked specialities. This included Kansas City spareribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken and sausage. Everything was smoky but moist. My husband proclaimed it might have been the best pulled pork he ever had. And the guy is a pulled pork connoisseur. He studies it in books and makes his own. I loved the chicken but then again I am not as much as a red meat eater as hubby is.

We also ordered a few sides. We had some Braised Collard Greens with Bacon and Sweet Potato Fries with Maple Dip. Now the sides were my favorite. I never thought greens could taste that good. Blue Smoke also has several different types of barbecue sauces that you can purchase to take home. We went towards the more sloppy BBQ part of the menu but they also have entrees such as Seared Herb Crusted Salmon, Filet with Bernaise Sauce and Seared Tuna or Scallops. Next time we are there, I would love to try one of those.

The kids were happy as my daughter loves ribs. And my son was able to get macaroni and cheese which is one of his favorites. But the best part for them was the Stewarts soda. And here is the little man pretending to drink out of the bottle.

If you are ever in NYC and want to get BBQ , it is the perfect place to try. They also have a jazz club downstairs that presents a great lineup of artists.

There are actually some pretty good BBQ restaurants in NYC – not as good as the authentic stuff down south, but better than you’d expect.

I have heard that NYC has pretty good BBQ! Looks like a great place – and super kid friendly – how cool!

Pulled pork is one of my all-time favorite sandwiches – my grandpa made a killer North Carolina bbq – no sauce, just vinegar and crushed red pepper flakes.

I’ve come close to his, but not quite!

Glad you had a fun meal out!

I had seen Stacey’s post also. The food looks great. My husband is also a die hard BBQ fan….He would love this place. In fact he mentioned a BBQ place he wants to visit down here in Richmond that he saw recently on the Food Network that Guy visited!

I love Blue Smoke. Who would’ve thought BBQ in the middle of NYC.

I wouldn’t think to have bbq in NYC either, but I do trust Stace! Glad it was so good. Love the greens.

P.S. Sorry if I was being a know-it-all in the glassware post… I know now that some dishes have temperature limits. So sorry if I was rambling about that like a moron. D’oh! 🙂
