This past weekend was my birthday. My daughter picked out the flowers. Easy for her to say life is cool when you are approaching 11. Now I won’t tell you how old I am but the hint is that I welcomed in middle age. Argggh, boo hoo! Pass me my reading glasses and extra strong face lift cream. Actually, I went to the eye doctor today. My reading vision is fine and I have always been very near sighted (blind as a a bat). But my vision has improved slightly. Did I tell you I also ran 3 miles today? Oh and my husband bought me a new lap top which will be hooked up on Thursday. So lets hear it for the middle years!
My two children decided to plan a little surprise. First we had balloons….
and my favorite Carvel ice cream cake.
But it couldn’t be complete without the chicken dance. Below is a card my kids bought. You open it up and the chicken dance plays. The funniest thing was watching my two cutie pies dance the chicken dance in unison. Kind of like synchronized diving which I watched on the Olympics last night.
I also bought myself a little present.
I have been dying to make homemade ice cream so we finally did. I went with the Kitchen Aid ice cream maker attachment because you don’t need a lot of storage space. The main bowl can be stored in my deep freezer. It worked great and I was able to use a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond. We went with the classic vanilla. This recipe is simple and not real rich. It reminded me of Bryers ice cream. You will definitely see more ice cream recipes in the future.
Vanilla Ice Cream
1 can(14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
2 cups milk(2%)
1 cup half and half
1 TBS vanilla
Mix all ingredients together. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Put in ice cream maker and follow instructions. Freeze for a few hours before serving if you would like a harder consistency.
